U.K. trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack, whose fourth Virgin album is due this summer, will tomorrow (April 9) release a DVD replete with all of the group's videos compiled in their full-length, director's cut form.
The succinctly titled "Eleven Promos" features clips ranging from 1990's Baillie Walsh-directed "Daydreaming" to a quartet of videos from the group's 1998 set "Mezzanine" -- "Rising Son," "Teardrop," "Inertia Creeps," and "Angel" (which is previously unreleased). "Protection" and "Teardrop" were awarded video of the year prizes at MTV Europe Awards ceremonies in 1995 and 1999, respectively.
Massive Attack has agreed to donate royalties from the DVD to the Red Cross, with Virgin matching the group's contribution. The collection will be minimally packaged in a clear plastic case. Buyers can download and print out cover art of their choice from a micro-site within the group's official Web site. In keeping with the minimalist approach, the DVD will contain no special "extras," save a Web link to the artwork micro-site.
"Mezzanine" debuted at No. 60 on The Billboard 200 in May 1998 and has sold 370,000 copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan.
