Singer/songwriter Joan Osborne will enter the studio this month with producer John Leventhal, noted for his work with Shawn Colvin, to record a new album, Billboard Bulletin reports. The set, to be titled "Womanly Hips," is scheduled for an Aug. 27 release by Osborne's Womanly Hips label as part of a new joint venture with Compendia Music Group. It will be preceded by a single in June.

Osborne -- whose triple-platinum 1995 Mercury debut spawned the No. 4 Hot 100 hit "One of Us" -- was previously signed to Interscope, which released her 2000 album, "Righteous Love." The artist launched Womanly Hips in 1991 with the release of her live album "Soul Show"; the imprint was distributed by Mercury when she was signed to that label.

The artist will tour this summer and is also planning a "Womanly Hips" arts and music festival for September, with dates and performers to be announced next month.

Compendia, whose music division is headquartered in Nashville, is a Los Angeles-based multimedia firm formed from the assets of the bankrupt Platinum Entertainment.
