Several music artists-turned-actors are being recognized with nominations at this year's MTV Movie Awards, to be taped June 1 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. MTV will air the show June 6 at 9 p.m. ET.

Will Smith received a nod for best male performance for his title role in "Ali," while DMX's role in "Exit Wounds" earned him a nomination for the breakthrough male award. The late Aaliyah is up for the best villain honor for her role as a vampire in "The Queen of the Damned." Britney Spears and Mandy Moore -- who had their first starring movie roles in "Crossroads" and "A Walk to Remember," respectively -- are both nominated in the breakthrough female category.

Meanwhile, the Oscar-nominated musical "Moulin Rouge" garnered four MTV Movie Award nods: best female performance for Nicole Kidman, best kiss (for Kidman and co-star Ewan McGregor), and a pair of nominations in the best musical sequence category.

Topping the list of contenders is "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings," with six nominations. Following close behind with five nods each are "The Fast and the Furious" and "Rush Hour 2."

The award show's host and musical performers will be announced at a later date. A complete list of nominees can be found at MTV.com.
