Founding Garbage drummer Butch Vig has again been sidelined for a number of dates on the band's current tour, according to the band's official Web site. Vig is suffering from "an acute inner ear infection causing painful sensitivity to sound," the site reports. Session drummer Matt Chamberlain (Fiona Apple, Tori Amos) will be filling in for him until he recovers.

It is not yet known when Vig will be able return to the band. Chamberlain begins filling in tonight (May 31) in San Diego. Last November, Vig sat out dates on a European tour after contracting Hepatitis A, an illness which turned his skin and eyes yellow and left him unable to walk. Chamberlain, who played on some tracks on the band's latest Interscope effort, "Beautifulgarbage," filled in for those performances as well.

Following a pair of weekend dates in Los Angeles, Garbage wraps the North American leg of the tour June 6 in Mexico City. A month-long European trek begins June 10 in Madrid.
