Australian rock act the Vines has confirmed plans for a North American tour in support of its Capitol debut, "Highly Evolved," due July 16. The tour kicks off July 9 with an appearance on MTV and wraps Aug. 19 with a performance on CBS' "The Late Show With David Letterman."

"Highly Evolved," produced by Rob Schnapf (Guided By Voices, Foo Fighters), is led by the first single "Get Free," which debuted at No. 37 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart this week. The video, directed by Roman Coppola, has been deemed "buzzworthy" on MTV and MTV2. Fans can download "Get Free" via the band's official Web site.

Before the July shows, the Vines will appear Sunday (June 8) at San Diego's X Fest, June 14 at San Francisco radio station Live 105's BFD show, and June 15 at Los Angeles station KROQ's Weenie Roast. A trio of U.K. dates follow.
