Weezer has added yet another twist to its summer Enlightenment tour, expanding the line-up to include three additional bands playing on a side stage. As previously reported, Sparta and Dashboard Confesssional will also be along for the ride, with the Strokes joining for five dates.
From the July 6 tour opener in Salt Lake City through a July 23 date in Holmdel, N.J., the lineup will be augmented by Loudermilk, Home Town Hero, and AM Radio. Loudermilk will be replaced by Rooney for the remaining dates, through Aug. 10 in Concord, Calif. For most of the shows, the "side stage" bands will actually play on a separate stage within the venue, but on select dates -- July 6, 7, 9, 14, 20, 23, and 24 -- the three additional groups will play in another nearby venue to be determined.
It is unclear how the ticket situation will work in the cases involving multiple venues, but expect more information to be posted on Weezer's official Web site in the coming weeks.
Weezer will be touring in support of its latest Interscope album, "Maladroit," which debuted earlier this month at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 246,000 units in the U.S. to date, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The band recently concluded a Japanese tour.
