Ozzy Osbourne is taking a three-week break from Ozzfest to be with his wife, Sharon, while she undergoes chemotherapy treatment for cancer, according to a post on his official Web site. Ozzy performed tonight (July 28) in Atlanta, but won't rejoin the festival until an Aug. 22 date in Denver. System Of A Down will headline during the break.

"This has been one of the hardest decisions I've had to make and I'm hoping that my fans will understand," Ozzy said in the statement. "Ozzfest must continue with or without me since it's Sharon's baby. I want to thank all the bands on Ozzfest and my crew for all their love and support, especially System Of A Down."

Ozzy is scheduled to miss a total of 11 dates. Fans who attend one of the show's during his leave of absence will receive an unspecified "free special treat" from the food vendors.

As previously reported, two Ozzfest shows were canceled in early July in the wake of Sharon's unexpected cancer surgery. There has been no word about any make-up dates.

Despite the difficulties, Epic is planning an Aug. 27 release for the "Ozzfest 2002" live album, to be drawn from recent shows.
