With their summer package tour, the Neon Circus and Wild West Show, behind them, Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks took a few weeks to generate more music. Brooks holed up with longtime writing partners Don Cook and Bob DiPiero, while Dunn consulted with collaborators Jerry Lynn Williams and Terry McBride.
Brooks says that they need to be writing to feel complete, while Dunn explains that being out on the road singing really revs him up to want to tear through some new songs. Though the pair doesn't have a due date to go back into the studio, they've been having a lot of fun. "We've just been enjoying the moments rather than the master plan," Brooks said.
The duo is continuing to tour on its own, with dates booked through mid-December, including stops at state fairs in Michigan, Kentucky, Iowa, New York, and New Mexico.
Brooks & Dunn's latest Arista album, "Steers and Stripes," is No. 17 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart in its 68th week. The set has sold 1.07 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
