A public funeral for Drowning Pool lead singer Dave Williams will be held Sunday (Aug. 18) in Plano, Texas. The service, which will be held at the Plano Centre (2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway), "is open to all those who wish to pay tribute to the singer," according to the band's official Web site.
A viewing will take place beginning at 1 p.m. Williams' casket will be closed prior to the scheduled 2 p.m. service, during which various friends and family members are expected to pay tribute to the singer. A private burial will follow.
"We lost a bandmate and a best friend," surviving members C.J. Pierce, Stevie Benton, and Mike Luce of the Dallas-based band said in a statement that is also posted on the site. "Dave Williams was one of a kind, and a friend to everyone he met. He was a good man, and a giving person. Not a day went by when he wasn't giving somebody a little present, and touching everyone around him with his passion. He was full of energy until the day he passed, and undeniably full of life. To the end, we were having a great time. We will miss him."
As previously reported, Williams, 30, was found dead Wednesday in the band's tour bus in Manassas, Va., near where it was due to perform yesterday. An autopsy failed to reveal the cause of death, according to the Associated Press. Police are awaiting toxicology tests as part of their investigation.
Those who wish to send flowers for the funeral service are asked to direct them c/o Turrentine-Jackson Morrow, Hwy 75 @ exit 38, McKinney, TX-75069. Anything other than flowers can be sent to Dave Williams, P.O. Box 1007, McKinney, TX 75070.
