The Offspring, Face To Face, Devo, and Social Distortion are among the acts confirmed to appear on Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huck Jam tour later this year. A sort of Warped Tour in reverse, the Huck Jam festival, which launches in early October, puts the emphasis on extreme sports, with the music taking a backseat to skateboarders and bikers.
Only one band will perform each date, as each arena will be filled with giant ramps and sets for elaborate sporting demonstrations. The Offspring will open the festival Oct. 12 in San Jose, Calif., and then turn the reigns over to Face To Face. Each band will stay on the jaunt for about a week, with Devo, CKY, Social Distortion, and Good Charlotte leading the festival across the country until it wraps in mid-November.
Athletes scheduled to appear include skateboarders Hawk, Brian Howard, and Buck Lasek; bikers Mat Hoffman, Dave Mirra, and John Parker; and motocrossers Mike Cinqmars, Ronnie Faisst and Carey Hart. Updates will be posted on the Huck Jam's official Web site. Most athletes are slated to appear on all the dates.
The festival, an offshoot of Hawk's "Gigantic Skateboard Tour" of the past few years, received an official kickoff last April in Las Vegas, in which the Offspring performed. "Boom Huck Jam is an idea that is long overdue," Hawk wrote on the festival Web site. "It is a skate/BMX/moto show of arena proportions, featuring an elaborate ramp system, music, and choreography. We, as professional riders, couldn't wait any longer to make it a reality. The first show was a blast and it will only get better."
