BET CEO Debra Lee Joins Twitter Board
The cable network executive tweeted the news.
Twitter is adding a media executive to its board, appointing BET chairman and CEO Debra Lee as one of its directors.
The cable network executive tweeted the news on Monday morning, noting that the San Francisco-based tech company has "transformed the media and the world like few other things in history (and continues to)!!"
Thrilled to be joining the @twitter board. It's transformed the media and the world like few other things in history (and continues to)!!— Debra Lee (@IamDebraLee) May 16, 2016
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said earlier this year that he wanted to add more diversity and an executive with media experience to the company's board. In April, Twitter appointed PepsiCo CFO Hugh Johnston and LastMinute.com founder Martha Lane Fox to the board.
The company also announced Monday that Marjorie Scardino has been appointed lead independent director. She will replace Peter Currie in the role, whose term will end following the company's Annual Meeting. Also stepping down this month is The Chernin Group's Peter Chernin.
Lee joined BET in 1986 and rose to the rose of CEO in 2006. She also serves on the boards of Marriott International and energy firm WGL Holdings.
