World-renowned DJ Paul Oakenfold is preparing to make his debut as a live performer later this month, as he brings his tour in support of his latest release "Bunkka" (Warner Bros.) to U.S. clubs and theaters. The trek, which will include some DJ-only sets and some mixed DJ and live performance nights, kicks off Nov. 25 in Miami and will hit 19 cities through Dec. 19 in Los Angeles.
The Miami opener, two New York dates (Nov. 27-28), a Dec. 3 date in Boston, and a Dec. 16 gig in Las Vegas will be DJ-only performances. On the remaining nights, Oakenfold will open the evening with a one-hour DJ set, following that with live performances of versions of "Bunkka" tracks.
Oakenfold's keyboards and programming will be augmented by drummer John Tonks (Tricky) and bassist/guitarist Tim Hutton (Groove Armada). Video images of guest vocalists who contributed to the album tracks, including Perry Farrell and Crazy Town's Shifty Shellshock, will be displayed on a large screen behind the group during the performances.
"Bunkka" debuted at No. 65 on The Billboard 200 in July and is at No. 1 this week on Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart. It has spawned the singles "Starry Eyed Surprise" and "Ready Steady Go."
