Keith Caulfield answers readers' questions about Mariah Carey, BBMak, and Guns 'N Roses.

WILL THERE BE A SINGLE, MARIAH?

Keith,

I was wondering when Mariah Carey's new single "Through the Rain" will be on sale? This song has been in rotation here in Kentucky for the past month, and I want to go and buy it. I am a huge Mariah Carey fan. I believe this song and her new album will make for a well-deserved comeback.

Thanks,

Joey Noce,
Richmond, Ky.

Hi Joey,

MonarC/Island Def Jam has decided not to release a commercial CD single in the U.S. for "Through the Rain." The single had been slated for a release, but was cancelled. No official reason has been given, but once can assume that the lack of radio support for the single is probably one of the factors that led to the decision. "Rain" has yet to debut on either Billboard's Hot 100 or Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts.

But, if you have a turntable, there is still hope. The remixes of "Through the Rain" will be out in a double 12" vinyl pack on Dec. 10 and the set sports revisions from the likes of Full Intention, Maurice Joshua, and Hex Hector.

In the meantime, Carey's next single is a 12" vinyl release on Nov. 26, which will include the tracks "Boy (I Need You)" featuring Cam'Ron, "Irresistible" with West Coast Connection, and "You Got Me" featuring Jay-Z and Freeway.

Carey's new album, "Charmbracelet," is due out on Dec. 3 on MonarC/Island Def Jam.

BBMAK ATTACK

Hello,

How many copies of BBMak's new album have been sold? I think it flopped.

Thanks,

Charles

Hi Charles,

Well, it all depends on what your definition of "flop" is. BBMak's new one, "Into Your Head," has sold 95,000 copies in the U.S. according to SoundScan, since its Aug. 27 release. The Hollywood album debuted and peaked at No. 25 on The Billboard 200.

The trio's last album, 2000's "Sooner Or Later," reached No. 38 on The Billboard 200 and has moved 867,000 copies.

Aside from their own album, the group can be heard singing the song "Always Know Where You Are" on the soundtrack to the Walt Disney animated feature "Treasure Planet." The song was written by Goo Goo Dolls singer/guitarist/songwriter John Rzeznik, who performs the song in the film.

WILL THE ROSES EVER BLOOM?

Keith,

When is the next Guns N' Roses album going to be released? Or should I say "the Axl Rose album?" I heard that "Chinese Democracy" is going to be released in February, is that true? If it is, I hope it sells well.

Cesar Sanchez

Cesar,

Well, if you believe the latest claim, "Chinese Democracy" will see the light of day next spring. At least, that's what has been reported.

In the meantime, you can catch the reconfigured band on tour. Rose and company are currently on the road in the U.S., following a series of shows in Asia and Europe.
