A gold record signed by R.E.M., a harmonica autographed by Alanis Morissette, rare photographs of the Beatles during the filming of "A Hard Day's Night," an autographed Aerosmith guitar, and handwritten lyrics by the likes of Johnny Ramone, Lou Reed, and Henry Rollins are some of the items going under the virtual hammer at Internet auction site eBay to benefit People for the American Way, a nonprofit advocacy organization.

Memorabilia related to of Natalie Merchant, Eric Clapton, Phish, Michelle Branch, U2, Joni Mitchell, Pearl Jam, Carole King, Joan Jett, Paul Simon, and others is also part of the auction, which ends Dec. 15.

Last December, People for the American Way presented Neil Young with a lifetime achievement award for his public stands to support free speech and a democratic society through his work.
