Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea is lending his bass skills to the debut album from the Mars Volta, which features former At The Drive-In members Cedric Bixler and Omar Rodriguez. Hard at work in Los Angeles with veteran producer Rick Rubin (Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers), the group will unleash the yet-to-be-titled disc April 29 via Universal.

The Mars Volta, who in March released the "Tremulant" EP through Rodriguez' San Diego indie label Gold Standard Labs, will also hit the road with the Chili Peppers for a string of European dates in March. As previously reported, the Chili Peppers will perform tonight (Dec. 20) at the 2002 Snowboard Grand Prix at Mountain Resort in Park City, Utah. The event will broadcast tomorrow on NBC.
