X singer/guitarist John Doe will take his solo act out on the road early in the New Year. After a Jan. 20 show in Salt Lake City, the artist has a slate of shows kicking off on Valentine's Day in Los Angeles, and running through a March 10 gig in Arlington, Va. He's also among those slated to perform during the 2003 edition of the South By Southwest music festival and conference March 12-16 in Austin, Texas.

In August, Doe released "Dim Stars, Bright Lights," his first solo album in two years, via iMusic. The Joe Henry-produced set found Doe collaborating with such vocalists as the Wallflowers' Jakob Dylan, Aimee Mann, the Go-Go's' Jane Wiedlin, Juliana Hatfield, and Old 97's' Rhett Miller.

Doe -- who was seen this summer in the Jennifer Aniston movie "The Good Girl" and Karl T. Hisch's independent film "Media Whore" -- also played a handful of dates in 2002 with X, including three on California's annual Hootenanny festival.
