Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence early Sunday morning in Berkeley, Calif. Armstrong, 30, was stopped near Telegraph Avenue for speeding in a black BMW convertible, a police spokesperson said. He failed a field sobriety test and was booked into Berkeley county jail, where he later was released on $1,053 bail.

A band spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Green Day is currently off the road but recently collaborated with Iggy Pop for two songs set to appear on the latter's upcoming Virgin album, according to its official Web site.
