Jennifer Lopez is in negotiations to star in the Miramax Films/Revolution Studios production of "An Unfinished Life," a drama to be directed by Lasse Hallstrom. The project is on a fast track with shooting scheduled to begin in the spring, making it Lopez's next film project.

"Life" centers on a down-on-her-luck woman who is desperate to care for her daughter, forcing her to move in with her estranged father-in-law. Through time, they learn to forgive each other and heal old wounds.

While Miramax will take the lead on production, the project marks yet another teaming of Lopez with Revolution. She currently stars onscreen in the Revolution/Columbia Pictures romantic comedy "Maid in Manhattan," which has taken in more than $76 million at the U.S. box office after four weeks in release, and she next stars in the company's "Gigli" opposite fiancee Ben Affleck.

She also has ties to Miramax, for whom she recently wrapped the studio's comedy "Jersey Girl," also opposite Affleck, for filmmaker Kevin Smith. That project is due for release this year.

Hallstrom's last three films -- "The Cider House Rules," "Chocolat" and "The Shipping News" -- all have been Miramax releases.
