In homage to one of America's most revered hairstyles, Epic/Legacy will merge 35 hard stomping classics for "Mullets Rock!," a two-CD set due March 4. Endorsing the slogan, "Play it loud, wear it proud," the collection touts 1970s and '80s rock classics from the likes of Foghat ("Slow Ride"), Molly Hatchet ("Flirtin' With Disaster"), Quiet Riot ("Metal Health"), and Alice Cooper ("School's Out.")

"It's not just a hairstyle, it's a lifestyle," the liner notes proclaim before pointing out that a number of the frontmen for the bands on "Mullets Rock!" -- like Journey's Steve Perry, Loverboy's Mike Reno, and REO Speedwagon's Kevin Cronin -- all sported the "short in front, long in back" look at some point.

Complete with glossary of alternate terms for the "mullet" -- which include "Camaro cut," "squirrel pelt," and "Tennessee tophat" -- the project's self-deprecating sense of humor should not belittle the tracks it possesses. Complete with some of the finest rock songs ever put to tape, from Cheap Trick's "Surrender" and Kansas' "Carry on Wayward Son" to Judas Priest's "Living After Midnight" and Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock," the collection is certainly is long on anthems.
