Multiple nominees Ashanti, Avril Lavigne, and the Dixie Chicks are the latest performers added to the 45th annual Grammy Awards ceremony. Also newly joining the bill for the Feb. 23 event at New York's Madison Square Garden are John Mayer, Vanessa Carlton, and members of the New York Philharmonic. The latter ensemble will be honored with the Recording Academy's Trustees Award at a special ceremony held the day before the Grammys.
These artists join previously announced performers Coldplay, Faith Hill, Norah Jones, Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Eight artists -- Springsteen, Eminem, Sheryl Crow, Ashanti, Jones, Nelly, Raphael Saadiq, and Lavigne -- are lead the field with five Grammy nominations each.
The Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Along with a traditional signal, CBS will also broadcast the show in high definition and 5.1 surround sound.
In related news, the Recording Academy has launched a "behind the scenes" Web site for its Grammy ceremonies. For the second year, America Online is an official partner to grammy.com and will offer direct links, sweepstakes, and access to exclusive merchandise and content to its members at AOL keyword: Grammy or aolmusic.com. In addition, AOL Broadband is offering members a radio-station link (radio@aol) with songs and interviews from Grammy nominees and past winners.
