Columbia/Legacy will celebrate legendary country singer/songwriter Willie Nelson's upcoming 70th birthday with 10 titles slated for release this year. Though Nelson's birthday won't actually come around until April 30, the releases will start flowing March 18 with "The Essential Willie Nelson," a two-disc retrospective spanning the artist's 40-year career.

On May 20, the label will drop expanded reissues of the albums "Willie Nelson & Family Live," "Pancho & Lefty," "San Antonio Rose," and "Always on My Mind." Each is digitally remastered with as-yet-unrevealed bonus tracks and new liner notes.

Then, in mid-summer, similarly expanded editions of Nelson albums "To Lefty From Willie," "Honeysuckle Rose," "Tougher Than Leather," and "Greatest Hits & Some That Will Be" will amble onto record-store shelves, accompanied by a previously unreleased concert recording. Reissue producers Al Quaglieri and Greg Geller have yet to specify the date and location of the live disc.

As previously reported, Sugar Hill Records will on Tuesday (Feb. 11) release "Crazy: The Demo Sessions," a digitally remastered set including tracks Nelson recorded as songwriting demos in Nashville in the early 1960s, before he struck it big as a solo artist. The set boasts eight previously unreleased recordings, including one Nelson original that was just discovered.
