Sibling trio Las Ketchup and Mexican pop diva Pilar Montenegro top the list of finalists for the 2003 Billboard Latin Music Awards; each will compete in seven categories. Colombian pop/rocker Juanes is close behind, competing in six categories, while Mexican/Argentine duo Sin Bandera and regional Mexican singer Aracely Arambula are each up for five awards.
The awards will be presented May 8 at the Miami Arena, a new venue for the show, and will be televised by the Telemundo network and simulcast by Hispanic Broadcasting Corp. As previously reported, this year's show will be open to the public for the first time.
Las Ketchup is up for top Latin albums artist; its hit song "Asereje" is a finalist for four awards. Montenegro's hit single "Quitame Ese Hombre" (Univision) is up for Hot Latin Track of the year, among other awards. The song topped Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart for 13 weeks and continued to propel sales of Montenegro's album "Desahogo" for several months after its release in September.
The Billboard Latin Music Awards have added 14 categories this year -- including honors for Latin Christian/gospel album and Latin tour -- for a total of 41 awards. Finalists and winners are based on the Billboard sales and radio charts.
