U.K. psychedelic rock outfit Spiritualized has collected a slew of rarities for the double-disc collection "The Complete Works Volume 1," due April 15 from Spaceman/Arista Records. The set will feature 24 tracks culled from singles, EPs, special pressings, and promotional releases from the first four years of the band's existence, 1990-1993.

Spiritualized frontman Jason Pierce personally selected each of the tracks for "Complete Works," which opens with the group's June 1990 debut single, the Troggs-penned "Any Way That You Want Me" backed with "Step Into the Breeze (Part 1)." Three versions of the rare original "Feel So Sad" are included in the set -- a 7-inch single version, a 13-minute take titled "Feel So Sad (Rhapsodies)," and a six-minute "Glides and Chimes" version.

Other notable inclusions on the collection are "Luminescence," an early version of the group's "Stay With Me;" "Good Dope/Good Fun," taken from a 1993 split 7-inch single with Mercury Rev; fan-club only flexidisc tracks "Smiles and "100 Bars (a capella);" and "Why Don't You Smile Now," a cover of an early John Cale/Lou Reed composition that predates the Velvet Underground.

Spiritualized's latest album, "Let It Come Down," debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart in October 2001 and has sold 55,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
