R. Kelly claims the latest allegations against him are an attempt to damage his career. The singer released a statement in response to reports that police in Chicago are looking into charges that he assaulted a woman. The unnamed 24-year-old alleges Kelly sexually abused her Tuesday at a recording studio on the city's North Side. Police say all they are dealing with at this point are allegations against the singer.

The statement by R. Kelly's camp notes that the allegation came on the same day the artist released his latest Jive album, "Chocolate Factory." It says the latest claims are "nothing more than an outrageous and blatant attempt at character assassination." The statement says the singer didn't "engage in any improper behavior" on Tuesday, or any day.

R. Kelly is currently out on bond while awaiting trial in Cook County, Ill. on 21 counts of child pornography. The charges relate to a videotape allegedly showing him engaging in sex acts with a minor. There are also child pornography charges pending against him in Florida, stemming from photographs authorities say they found on his digital camera.
