Anastacia is recovering at home from recent breast cancer surgery. In a statement, her doctor says a seven-hour Feb. 10 procedure to remove the cancer and reconstruct her breast was a success, and that early detection saved the vocalist's life.
"Although what Anastacia has is serious, she is very lucky," Dr. Alexander Swistel said. "Due to the aggressive nature of her cancer, she was months away from a more immediate life-threatening condition. However, her prognosis is good, as are her spirits, which figures into any patient's successful recovery."
The New York-based singer's cancer was detected in early January after her doctor recommended a mammogram during a routine checkup. She spent just two days recuperating in a hospital before returning home to convalesce. As part of the recovery, she will undergo a six-week radiation therapy regimen.
"My will, my faith, and my body have been challenged," Anastacia said. "But make no mistake, my heart is strong and my resolve to fight will never be broken.
"To all the people that have reached out to wish me well, I thank you from the bottom of my heart," she added. "And in return, if there is anything that I've learned from this experience it is to get a mammogram early. Even if not covered by insurance, give up that pair of shoes, don't go out for that expensive dinner -- get a mammogram."
Last year, Anastacia's sophomore Daylight/Epic album, "Freak of Nature," debuted at No. 27 on The Billboard 200. The set's "One Day in Your Life" topped Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
