Jennifer Lopez is in negotiations to star opposite Richard Gere in Miramax Films' "Shall We Dance?" -- a remake of the 1996 Japanese feature that Peter Chelsom will direct. Production is scheduled to begin in June. The project marks the third consecutive film that Lopez has committed to for Miramax, beginning with the upcoming "Jersey Girl" opposite Ben Affleck and followed by "Unfinished Life," which, as previously reported, she will shoot next month for helmer Lasse Hallstrom.

"Dance" is described as a romantic comedy about a man who takes ballroom dancing lessons to impress a beautiful young dance teacher. Miramax, which acquired "Dance" in 1996, released the original film in 1997 and began developing an English-language version shortly thereafter.

Lopez will next star with Affleck in Revolution Studios' "Tough Love" (aka "Gigli"). Gere's next film is expected to be "Without Apparent Motive," a thriller co-starring Julianne Moore.
