As tipped here earlier this month, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted will play bass in Ozzy Osbourne's band this summer on the Ozzfest tour. Newsted will be pulling double duty this year, as Voivod, a band in which he also plays bass, will be a part of the Ozzfest second stage lineup. The tour kicks off June 28 in San Antonio.

Newsted is in effect switching roles with Robert Trujillo, his replacement in Metallica. Trujillo, formerly of Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves, was Osbourne's bassist from 1999 until officially joining Metallica in recent weeks.

In other Ozzfest news, TRUSTcompany has opted to pull out of its placement on the tour's mainstage and instead return to the studio to record its second Interscope album. No replacement has yet been announced. The rest of the mainstage lineup now features Korn, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, Chevelle, and Osbourne.

Meanwhile, Osbourne has confirmed an eight-date Canadian headlining tour prior to Ozzfest, beginning June 1 in Vancouver and wrapping June 16 in Quebec City, Quebec.
