The Flaming Lips will on April 22 release a new EP led by the single "Fight Test," drawn from their latest Warner Bros. album "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots." The disc will be rounded out by covers of Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head," Radiohead's "Knives Out," and "The Golden Age" by Beck, with whom the Lips toured last year.
Two new songs also grace the set: "The Strange Design of Conscience" and "Thank You Jack White (For the Fiber-Optic Jesus That You Give Me)," presumably inspired in some way by the titular White Stripes singer/guitarist. A remix of "Yoshimi" album track "Do You Realize" by Scott Hardkiss rounds out the tracklist.
The Lips just wrapped a European tour Sunday in Greece and are gearing up for a fresh round of U.S. dates, beginning April 15 in Athens, Ga. An April 25 show originally scheduled for New York's Irving Plaza has been moved to the much larger Roseland Ballroom to accommodate fan demand.
"Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" debuted in August 2002 at a career-best No. 50 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 231,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
