Veteran singer/songwriter Richard Thompson will kick off a U.S. tour April 21 in Boulder, Colo. Scheduled dates last through a May 25 show in Groveland, Calif., with more expected.

Thompson will be touring in support of "The Old Kit Bag," due May 6 in North America from spinART/Cooking Vinyl. Thompson's official Web site notes that the 12-track album will feature bonus tracks not available on the U.K. version, released Feb. 3 by Cooking Vinyl. It will also differ from the Japanese version, released Feb. 10 by P-Vine Records, which includes the extra live track "So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo."

"The Old Kit Bag" is Thompson's first release for spinART/Cooking Vinyl, and the follow-up to 1999's "Mock Tudor." That Capitol set debuted at No. 15 on Billboard's Top Internet Albums chart.

In other news, Thompson's version of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" will be heard on a soundtrack for the NBC series "Crossing Jordan," to be released April 1 via DMZ Records. Thompson writes on his site that he used to play the song with Fairport Convention in the late 1960s, "so at least I knew the words." The track was recorded in January in Los Angeles with producer Craig Street and what Thompson described as a "terrific house band."

The soundtrack will also feature tracks by Lucinda Williams, Vic Chesnutt, Alison Krauss, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Henry, and even series star Jill Hennessy.
