Hard rock outfit A Perfect Circle has been tapped for six dates on the mainstage of this summer's Lollapalooza festival, filling in for Queens Of The Stone Age, who have prior European touring commitments in the midst of the trek. The run begins Aug. 15 in Phoenix and will wrap Aug. 23 in Seattle. As previously reported, Jane's Addiction, Audioslave, Incubus, Jurassic 5, and the Donnas lead the rest of the mainstage for Lollapalooza, which begins July 3 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
A Perfect Circle, which features Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, former Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel, drummer Josh Freese, and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, is working on its sophomore Virgin album, expected out this year. The group has undergone a bit of a lineup change since its 2000 debut, "Mer de Noms," as bassist Paz Lenchantin left to join Zwan and was replaced by former Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez.
As Van Leeuwen is currently a touring member of Queens Of The Stone Age, it is not known who will replace him for A Perfect Circle's Lollapalooza performances.
"Mer de Noms" was a runaway hit at retail and rock radio, debuting at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and having sold 1.4 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. It spawned the singles "Judith" (No. 4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, No. 5 Modern Rock Tracks), "3 Libras" (No. 12 Modern/Mainstream Rock Tracks), and "The Hollow" (No. 14 Mainstream Rock, No. 17 Modern Rock).
