Vocalist Nnenna Freelon, saxophonist Jimmy Heath, flutist Nester Torres, and acclaimed groups Cubanismo and the Yellowjackets are among the acts booked for the 14th annual San Jose Jazz Festival. Slated for Aug. 7-10, the free-to-the public event is presented by the San Jose Jazz Society (SJJS) and will feature acts on multiple stages in and around the city's Plaza de Cesar Chavez.

Freelon will join the Count Basie Orchestra at the event's opening night gala along a closed block of the city's affluent Santana Row. The mainstage is set to open on the evening of Aug. 8 with Afro-Cuban act Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca.

The next day will be the first of two full days of activity, with performances by pianist Taylor Eigsti, vocalist Ledisi, saxophonist, Greg Osby, the Yellowjackets, and Cubanismo. The festival's final day will see performances by guitarist Julian Lage, Torres, Heath and the San Jose Jazz Society Orchestra, and an event-closing set by Freelon.

Following the festival's Friday and Saturday night bills, the San Jose Hilton and Towers will host the open-mic Jazz Jam, while Waves Smokehouse will feature an after-hours All Night Jazz Jam on Saturday night.

The San Jose Jazz Festival is staged by the SJJS and sponsored by Comcast and Southwest. For more information, visit the SJJS Web site.
