Members of Green Day, Rancid, X, Blink 182, A.F.I., and more lend their voices and likeness to the forthcoming animated/puppetry film "Live Freaky! Die Freaky!" The Hellcat Pictures film was written and directed by independent filmmaker John Roecker and produced by Rancid/Transplants guitarist/vocalist Tim Armstrong.

Described as "an epic motion picture of puppet proportions," the film is set in the year 3069, where the earth is barren thanks to war and ozone depletion. Survivors roaming the earth in search of food will be saved by the return of serial killer Charles Manson.

Armstrong narrates the film, while his fellow Rancid members play various roles: guitarist/singer Lars Frederiksen plays Heave Parent, bassist Matt Freeman plays Heino, and drummer Brett Reed voices Cop #3. X's John Doe plays Hex, Green Day singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong plays a cashier named Charlie, and Vandals/A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese plays Prosecutor Bug.

Others musicians in the cast are Vandals singer/guitarist Warren Fitzgerald, A.F.I. singer Davey Havok, Lunachicks singer Theo Kogan, Blink 182/Box Car Racer drummer Travis Barker, Tiger Army singer Nick 13, White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult, and bassist Janis Tanaka (who has played with L7, Pink, and the Mr. T Experience). The film also features the voices of actors Ann Magnuson ("Friends & Lovers," "Wanda at Large") and Viggo Mortensen ("Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "28 Days").

Roecker's link to the California punk scene is extensive. A longtime friend of X singer Exene Cervenka, he previously co-owned with her the L.A. store You've Got Bad Taste. He contributed to the cover design of X's 1995 album "Unclogged" (Infidelity/Sun), and organized the Punk Hall of Fame Awards in 1999.

According to its official Web site, "Live Freaky! Die Freaky!" is due to be released in December.
