The June 3 release date of the "YES New York" compilation (on Wolfgang Morden, the soundtrack imprint of Vice Records) will serve as an occasion for celebration. That evening, New York's Hi Fi club (formerly Brownies) will host a listening party, and a number of the bands featured on the disc will be playing concerts around town that week.
A CD release show featuring Radio 4, the Rogers Sisters, Calla, and DJ Ted Leo is set for June 4 at the Bowery Ballroom. Each of those artists contributed to the compilation, which anthologizes some of New York's top young acts, most of whom have released albums in the past year. Leo and his band the Pharmacists will also headline a June 1 concert at the Bowery Ballroom, and two more bands from the compilation, the Rapture and LCD Soundsystem, will play a June 5 concert at Irving Plaza.
Other artists featured on "YES New York" include the Strokes, the Natural History, Unitard, Longwave, the Walkmen, and Le Tigre. Some proceeds from the album will benefit Musicians on Call, which utilizes music as part of healing therapy in healthcare facilities.
In related news, Leo, who has been touring steadily since the February release of his latest album with the Pharmacists, "Hearts of Oak" (Lookout!), canceled a number of dates after he strained his larynx during a show last Sunday (May 4) in Urbana, Ill. Leo finished the show, but returned to his New Jersey home for treatment and canceled all his scheduled concerts through May 25.
He plans to resume touring with a May 26 show in Atlanta and has dates scheduled through mid-summer, including a previously reported appearance at Coney Island, N.Y.'s free Siren Festival.
