California hard rock outfit the Deftones returns from a three-year break with a new self-titled studio album, due this week from Maverick/Warner Bros. The 11-track set is led by the single "Minerva," which is No. 12 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks airplay chart. Another album cut "Lucky You," can be found on the soundtrack to "Matrix Reloaded," also available from Maverick.
"Deftones" was produced by the band with Terry Date, who was behind the boards for 2000's "White Pony." That set debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 1.06 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The single "Change (In the House of Flies)" peaked at No. 3 on Modern Rock Tracks, while "Digital Bath" reached No. 16 on the same tally.
The group begins a European tour May 29 in Lisbon, Portugal, before hitting the road with the Summer Sanitarium tour July 4 in Detroit. That jaunt also features Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Mudvayne.
