Hard rock act Staind has added a slew of appearances at radio station-sponsored festivals and a handful of headlining shows to its tour schedule. As previously reported, the band kicked off its run last week in Boston with the first of four free club shows. The band played New York over the weekend and has a free show tomorrow (May 20) in Los Angeles and another Friday in Chicago.
On Saturday, Staind will make the first of its festival appearances at a WRZX Indianapolis-sponsored show in Noblesville, Ind. Interspersed throughout an itinerary stretching into early July are five headlining shows that will also feature Cold (June 3 Columbus, June 4 Grand Rapids, June 10 Oklahoma City, June 17-18 Las Vegas), and a June 11 stop in Albuquerque, N.M., with Godsmack and Cold.
A full headlining tour is being planned with a July start. The run will feature special guests Static-X and Lo-Pro. Details will be announced on the band's official Web site.
The site also lists several shows in July and August, including an MTV taping July 9 at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, and a July 18 stop at Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days. The latter venue is giving away tickets to the show via its Web site. Also listed is an Aug. 2 gig at Bethlehem, Pa.'s annual Musikfest, a 10-day, multi-stage event that features hundreds of performances by a wide range of acts.
Staind is touring in support of its fourth album, "14 Shades of Grey," due tomorrow via Flip/Elektra. First single "Price to Play" is No. 5 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, No. 6 on the Modern Rock Tracks tally, and No. 66 on the Hot 100.
The album is the follow-up to 2001's "Break the Cycle," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. Buoyed by the singles "Outside" and "It's Been Awhile" (the latter of which spent 16 weeks atop Billboard's Modern Rock chart), the album has sold 4.9 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
