Liza Minnelli broke her right kneecap when she tripped over a step at a hotel in Bologna, Italy, but still plans to sing at a benefit concert tonight (May 27) with famed tenor Luciano Pavarotti, her publicist said.

Minnelli, 58, was taken to a hospital after the accident Sunday and will have to wear a full-leg cast for about four weeks. "Even though she won't be able to rehearse, she is going to perform [tonight] with Pavarotti, even wearing the cast," the publicist said.

Minnelli is planning to sing "New York, New York," in a duet with Pavarotti at his annual Pavarotti and Friends, benefit in his hometown of Modena, Italy.

The artist tripped in the hallway of Hotel Grand Baglioni as she walked from her suite to the elevator, according to the publicist. Her husband, David Gest, ran to her when she screamed and called paramedics.

Four specialists worked on Minnelli's injury for three hours. Minnelli and Gest were on their way to meet friends for dinner when she fell, the publicist said.
