The lineup will still feature Radiohead, Underworld, Beck, Blur, and the Beastie Boys, but a number of previously announced artists are expected to drop off the bill.
Spiritualized, Liz Phair, Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith, Gemma Hayes, and the 22-20s have also been confirmed to appear. Tickets to the new event will go on sale today at 5 pm ET via Ticketmaster. Previously issued Field Day tickets will not be valid and refunds will be issued at points of purchase.
Last night, the Riverhead Town Board tabled a vote on granting Field Day organizers a mass gathering permit. A similar permit had already been denied by Suffolk County, citing security and logistical concerns. This morning, a Giants Stadium spokesperson confirmed to Billboard.com that talks were in progress to move the event.
Holding Field Day in Riverhead proved impossible after the New York State Police said they would not lend a hand to enforce the expected crowd of 50,000, citing a lack of preparation time. "Several months lead time is minimally necessary to develop comprehensive concert plans," Lt. Col. James Schepperly said in a letter to Suffolk County officials.
Field Day's executive producer Andrew Dreskin had been hunting for more security since last week. Suffolk County officials conceded that if about 100 more police officers were hired, the original ruling would be overturned and the permit would likely be granted.
