Queen Latifah in 20th Century Fox's "Taxi," due to start shooting Sept. 15. The film, an English-language remake of the 1998 French feature of the same name, is being produced by Luc Besson, who also produced the original. Tim Story is in negotiations to direct.

"Taxi" centers on a speedy cab driver (Latifah) who teams up with an eager young cop to solve a series of bank robberies. The original film went on to spawn a couple of French sequels, including "Taxi 2" in 2000 and "Taxi 3," released earlier this year.

Latifah most recently starred on the big screen in "Bringing Down the House" and "Chicago," with the latter performance landing her a supporting actress Oscar nomination. She next appears in "Barbershop 2," the sequel to the hit MGM film that Story directed.

As previously reported, the actress is also attached to star in Miramax Films' remake of the South Korean action-comedy "My Wife Is a Gangster."
