EvaEvanescence started a fourth week with the U.K.'s No. 1 single and Destiny's Child's Beyonce Knowles debuted as a solo artist with the No. 1 album on the new tallies published yesterday (June 29).
Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life" (Wind-Up/Sony) kept the top spot despite the strong debut performance by Blazin' Squad's "We Just Be Dreamin'" (East West). That cut landed at No. 3, while Fast Food Rockers' "Fast Food Song" (Better the Devil) held at No. 2.
Among other new singles entries, Metallica's "St. Anger" (Vertigo/Mercury) entered at No. 9 and "Like What" by Epic's new five-piece girl group Tommi arrived at No.12. Synth-pop pioneer Gary Numan returned to the chart at No. 13 with "Crazier" (Jagged Halo), credited to Gary Numan vs. Rico. It's one of the three new tracks that appeared on Numan's recent remix album, "Hybrid," and his best showing since "We Take Mystery (To Bed)" reached No. 9 in 1982.
Knowles' album, "Dangerously in Love" (Columbia), credited simply to Beyonce, matched the performance of Destiny's Child's last set, "Survivor," which went straight to the top of the U.K. chart in May 2001.
Last week's No. 1 album, Evanescence's "Fallen" (Wind-Up/Epic), slipped to No. 2 behind Beyonce. The next highest debut was "The Very Best of George Benson -- The Greatest Hits" at No. 4. It's the sixth U.K. top-10 album of Benson's career and his highest-charting album here since "Love Songs" went to No. 1 in 1985.
Eminem's recent three-night stand at the U.K.'s Milton Keynes Bowl had a strong sales impact. This pushed his album, "The Eminem Show" (Interscope), up 23-11. His labelmate and guest on the first date, 50 Cent, climbed 11-7 with his album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."
Around Europe, Metallica's "St. Anger" (Vertigo/Mercury) leads the Music & Media's European Top 100 Albums chart for a third week, and Evanescence tops the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles tally for the third week with "Bring Me To Life."
