1998 - Grammy-winning rapper Coolio is arrested in Lawndale, Calif., on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon and possessing marijuana. The rapper, whose real name is Artis Ivey, is booked and released that day with an order to appear in court at a later date.
1998 - The Managers of Brandy and Monica issue a joint statement decrying gossip that the rival soul divas battled backstage at the MTV Music Awards show earlier in the week. "The fact is that Brandy and Monica did interviews together, had their picture taken together, had adjoining dressing rooms, sat together at the show, and held hands and prayed together prior to going on stage to perform," the statement says.
