Welsh rock act Super Furry Animals, whose sixth album "Phantom Power" is due July 29 from XL/Beggars Group, will link with Modesto, Calif.-based rock outfit Grandaddy for a fall U.S. tour, due to kick off Sept. 18 in San Francisco.
Grandaddy's fourth album, "Sumday" (V2) debuted last month at No. 84 on The Billboard 200. The critically acclaimed four-piece will co-headline with Super Furry Animals on the trek, which stretches through an Oct. 3-4 stand at New York's Irving Plaza.
Super Furry Animals will be playing their sets in surround-sound. The move dovetails with the release "Phantom Power" in DVD form, allowing the group to mix the album in 5.1 surround sound and augment it with visual wallpaper, video clips and remixes.
Grandaddy will squeeze the co-headlining tour in between other summer and fall engagements supporting "Sumday." Super Furry Animals will follow the U.S. trek with an October U.K. tour and a trip to Japan in November. In addition, both bands are planning on hitting a number of European festivals in the next two months.
