Blu Cantrell, the Providence, R.I.-born R&B singer whose only previous U.K. hit topped out at No. 12, has Britain's new No. 1 single. "Breathe," featuring Sean Paul (Arista), which peaked at No. 81 on Billboard's Hot 100, went straight to the top on the new U.K. sales survey, as Daniel Bedingfield's "Never Gonna Leave Your Side" (Polydor) fell 1-4. Lumidee's "Never Leave You (Uh-Ooh, Uh-Oooh)" (Universal) debuted at No. 2, followed by Robbie Williams' "Something Beautiful" (Chrysalis) at No. 3.
On the album chart, Liverpool rock act the Coral achieved its first No. 1 with "Magic and Medicine" (Deltasonic), beating the August 2002 No. 5 entry of its self-titled debut. In doing so, the group ended the five-week reign at No. 1 for Beyonce's "Dangerously in Love" (Columbia).
There was a No. 10 debut for "Ultimate Yes," a new retrospective on the British prog-rock veterans released by Warner Strategic Marketing to mark the band's 35th anniversary. It's Yes' 11th top-10 album over a 32-year span, and its first since "Union" in 1991. It also gives the group top-10 entries in four consecutive decades.
Back on the singles chart, there was a No. 7 debut for U.K. pop-dance trio Kosheen's "All in My Head" (Arista), the first single from its album "Kokopelli," due Aug. 11. Craig David's "Spanish" (Wildstar) arrived at No. 8 and "In Love" by former So Solid Crew member Lisa Maffia (Independiente) landed at No. 13.
Beyonce's reign on both pan-European sales charts continues, as "Dangerously in Love" holds at No. 1 for a second week on the European Top 100 Albums chart, and "Crazy in Love" featuring Jay-Z spends a third week atop the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles roundup.
