Dizzee Rascal was awarded the U.K.'s 2003 Mercury Music Prize at a ceremony tonight (Sept. 9) in London. The 18-year-old MC/producer's debut, "Boy In Da Corner," was released in July by XL Recordings in the U.K.

The Darkness' first album, "Permission To Land," had been hotly tipped as the album most likely to win the prestigious honor, while popular acts Radiohead and Coldplay were early favorites with U.K. oddsmakers.

"Boy In Da Hood" also beat out nominated releases by such as well as albums by Lemon Jelly, the Thrills, Athlete, Terri Walker, Floetry, Soweto Kinch, Martina Topley Bird and Eliza Carthy.
