Although its members are busy with a variety of solo projects, No Doubt last week hit the studio with producer Nellee Hooper to record a cover of Talk Talk's "It's My Life" for inclusion on a forthcoming best-of album. The set, "Singles 1992-2003," is among several collections the group is compiling for release "by the end of the year," according to its official Web site.

Also in the pipeline is the "Rock Steady Live DVD," taped last year in Long Beach, Calif., and augmented with "tons of bonus stuff," the site reports. A limited-edition boxed set will bundle "Singles," a DVD collection of all No Doubt's music videos, a DVD version of the 1997 VHS release "Live in the Tragic Kingdom" and a disc's worth of B-sides and rare tracks.

As previously reported, frontwoman Gwen Stefani is working on her Interscope solo debut with assistance from No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal, members of Outkast and producers Dallas Austin and Damon Elliott. The set is penciled in for a spring 2004 release.

Guitarist Tom Dumont has recorded material with Matt Costa, while drummer Adrian Young will sit in with Bow Wow Wow for that group's Sept. 20 appearance at KROQ's Inland Invasion concert in Devore, Calif. Besides pitching in on Stefani's new music, Kanal has been working on album with his friend Elan Atias.
