Troye Sivan 'Really, Really' Wants to Write With Taylor Swift, Hopes to Become Lorde's Bestie
After Troye Sivan notched a trio of top 10-charting albums on the Billboard 200, he’s now enjoying his first airplay hit with “Youth,” which is at No. 28 on the Pop Songs chart dated March 5. The track’s video premiered on Feb. 24, and is the latest single from his Blue Neighbourhood album, which debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 last year.
The Pop Shop Podcast caught up with Sivan on Feb. 9 at his iHeartRadio Theater show, just as “Youth” was taking off on the airwaves. In the interview, Sivan says, “I heard it on the radio in L.A. for the first time, on KIIS, a week and a half ago… and just lost my mind.” (Listen to Sivan on the Pop Shop Podcast, beginning at the 22:43 mark.)
“I always talk about this,” Sivan continues, “but I don't think anyone really understands. Coming from Australia, America to me was always this crazy place of hopes and dreams, and famous people, and music, and everything was so much bigger here. And to feel like something I'm doing is succeeding here is a very very very crazy concept to me. It kind of makes everything feel a little more amplified.”
“I really really really want to write with Taylor Swift. I'm sure that everyone would say that, but for me… as a student of pop music, I feel like I have so much that I could learn from her. Her and Max Martin. I would just want to sit in that room and watch them do what they do, and hopefully help a little.”
In response, Billboard tells Sivan that we’ve now sent those hopeful vibes into the universe, to which he jokes, “I've sent it into the universe so many times. Honestly. I'm waiting for the day that Lorde hears an interview of me gushing about her and decides to hit me up and become my best friend. Or Taylor Swift. But none of the above have happened.”
Sivan is currently on tour with dates scheduled through May 20. He next plays Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall on Feb. 26, followed by Montreal’s Corona Theatre on Feb. 27.
