Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Dave Grohl, David Bowie Win at NME Awards
Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Dave Grohl, Wolf Alice and The Libertines were among the big winners at the 2016 NME Awards, held Wednesday night at the O2 Academy in Brixton, south London.
Swift won for best international solo artist just days after collecting album of the year honors at the Grammys Awards, while Foo Fighter Dave Grohl was named NME's "hero of the year."
The Maccabees took out best British band and Run The Jewels won for best international band. Charli XCX beat out stiff opposition (including Adele) to win best British solo artist, while homegrown act Wolf Alice grabbed best live band and best track for "Giant Peach."
The Libertines' secret Glastonbury set was declared the "music moment of the year" and the indie rock group won for best fan community.
There was a posthumous award for David Bowie, whose Five Years won for best reissue. Bowie was raised in Brixton and the now-globally famous mural of the great artist adorns a wall no more than 300 meters from the awards venue.
5 Second of Summer again won the dubious honor of worst band, while Donald Trump scooped villain of the year.
Coldplay received the "Godlike Genius" award from Kylie Minogue before wrapping the night up with a five song set which included "Viva La Vida" and the classic "Yellow."
The annual awards are voted on by readers of the NME music news title.
