'Myst' Sings Along With Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel will contribute his musical talents to "Myst," one of the best-selling video game franchises in history. Gabriel has licensed the previously unreleased song "Burn You Up, Burn You Down" for next month's release of "Uru: Ages Beyond Myst." He also will provide another track for the next game in the Ubisoftfranchise.

Ten years ago, Gabriel became an early pioneer of interactive entertainment with "Explora," a CD-ROM of music, interviews and other content, including a virtual music mixing desk.

Gabriel says he was attracted to the project because the game created other worlds "in which mystery and imagination were the compelling elements instead of the usual action-packed shoot-'em-ups." He adds, "I think there is some similarity with the way I try and create worlds of sound."

"There are only a handful of artists whose work takes me to deeper places. Peter Gabriel is one," Cyan Worlds CEO Rand Miller says. "I believe our goal is the same -- build a bridge to someplace new."

Meanwhile, Geffen has set a Nov. 4 release for "HIT," a two-disc collection of Gabriel's best-known tracks. "Burn You Up, Burn You Down" is included along with several rarities, such as a live version of "Downside Up" and "Lovetown," his contribution to the "Philadelphia" soundtrack. A DVD chronicling Gabriel's Growing Up world tour stop in Milan will be issued the same day.
