Watch: Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter Arrested After Florida Bar Fight
The sun isn't shining so bright in Key West, Florida, for Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter, who was arrested Wednesday night at the Hog's Breath Saloon after a reported brawl broke out at the bar. TMZ first reported the news and Billboard confirmed Carter's arrest with the Key West Police Department, who filed a report charging Carter with battery.
The report details how Carter and another man, Michael Papayans, were refused service after entering the bar. Management told the men to leave. Surveillance video reviewed by the police shows that once outside, "Carter hit" the bouncer with a punch; other witnesses report that Papayans allegedly head-butted another employee. Bar security then restrained both men until police arrived at the scene. The report notes that Carter was visibly intoxicated and slurring his words to police.
In this video posted by the City of Key West, Carter can be heard telling the police, "My name is Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys. I’m a fucking singer." He insists he just wanted to have "a couple of drinks" and then yells, "I wanted to sing! That's all I wanted to do. I wanted to go on the microphone and sing." The officer politely reminded Carter that he saw the assault on the videotape and would have to talk to the victim to see if an apology from Carter would suffice (it clearly did not.)
This incident comes on the heels of an otherwise productive past year for the singer. Carter, 35, appeared on this past season of Dancing With the Stars and released his third solo album, All American, in November. He and his wife Lauren Kitt Carter are also expecting their first child. Billboard reached out to Carter's rep for comment.
