Sting's Sacred Love Tour will begin Jan. 23 at the Knight Center in Miami, Billboard Bulletin has learned. The first leg of the tour will encompass approximately 35 shows in North America. They will be followed by approximately 35 shows in Europe, beginning in late April, playing some theatres but mostly arenas and festivals.
Sting will return to North America for a run of 30-35 amphitheaters in July through September. Plans then call for a return Europe and other international territories. The total tour could include as many as 150 shows in 2004. Ticket pre-sales will be conducted through Sting's fan club and American Express promotions.
This is Sting's first tour since the two-year outing in support of his 1999 A&M album "Brand New Day," which grossed more than $54 million from 104 shows worldwide in 1999-2001.
"Sacred Love" is No. 25 in its sixth week on The Billboard 200 and has sold 522,000 copies in the U.S. so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album's next single, "Whenever I Say Your Name" featuring Mary J. Blige, will be released Nov. 24 internationally, augmented by Will.I.Am's remix featuring Black Eyed Peas.
As previously reported, Sting will receive Billboard's Century Award as well as perform at the Billboard Music Awards on Dec. 10 in Las Vegas.
