Former Scandal Singer Patty Smyth Gets in the Holiday Spirit With Some Famous Friends on 'Come On December': Video Premiere
Patty Smyth is spreading the holiday spirit with her new album, Come On December. And the former Scandal singer had some of her famous friends ho ho ho it up in the video for the title track, which Billboard is premiering exclusively. Shot throughout New York City (some clips recorded at Coney Island), the clip features cameos from her husband (and tennis pro) John McEnroe, Sharon Osbourne and TV personality Julie Chen singing along. Watch it below.
On the decision to shoot at Coney Island, Smyth tells Billboard, "Every time I go to Coney Island I have fun. I had an idea that it was the magic place for us and it was. The video makes me smile the whole time watching. It's not glamorous but it's real. Christmas means home for me and New York is my home."
She adds: "Christmas is hard for a lot of people and for a lot of reasons. "I wanted to write about the good things about Christmas --the snow the lights and to try to remember it is a wonderful life. Focus on the positive. These are the dualities of Christmas."
Director Dave Doobinin and Smyth envisioned the video as "a love letter to New York during the holiday season." He adds, "The home movies people made on their iPhones , singing along, represent the heart of the city. The pizza guy , the hardware store employees , public school PTA, vacationers in Rockefeller Center. Patty is the tour guide -- follow her 'back home.’"
